Chapter 2 of How to Make Tasty Sets of Tunes
This is Chapter 2 of How to Make Tasty Sets of Tunes in the January 2023 Batch.
Whether you're just getting started on the fine art of making sets of tunes, or you've been doing it for a while, this mini-workshop will give you the tools to understand how and why tunes go together (or don't), and how to craft coherent, smooth, and musically exciting sets. We'll talk about creating sets both from a technical perspective and from an artistic perspective, and I'll explain any music theory terms that come up as we go, so don't worry if you're new to such concepts. We'll also talk about what doesn't tend to work when it comes to making sets...always a good thing to know!
The tunes I'll use for "case studies" will be common, easy tunes. But you don't need to know the tunes in order to make use of the concepts. Please bring any tunes that you'd like to put in sets to class...we'll discuss how best to use them with other common tunes.
Who's this for: All melody instruments
Level: All levels - these skills are applicable at all stages of your musical journey.
