How to Be a Good Musician (aka How to Listen)

How to Be a Good Musician (aka How to Listen)

In this workshop, we'll get a little philosophical and begin what will likely be a continuing series on the topic of communal musicianship with this most basic but often completely overlooked concept: In order to be a good musician, you have to be as good at (perhaps better at) listening as you are at playing.

We'll spend the hour discussing what, exactly, that means in the context of trad music. Topics will include learning (all sorts of learning), session playing, playing with other melody instruments, playing with backers (Chris Ranney may make a guest speaker appearance), arrangements and performance, being an anthropologist, being a good human, etc.

Who's this for: All instrumentalists
Level: All. This topic can be as shallow or deep as you make it, and is a life-long endeavor that morphs over time, just like life. How's that for deep!
