How to Play Faster and Better with Others
This is a mini-workshop I've taught at a number of festivals and camps in response to this extremely common scenario I commonly hear students complain about: "I can play the notes pretty well at home, but when I try to speed up, or when I try to play with others at the session, everything falls apart. How do I play faster?"
The answer to being able to play faster, IMHO, is three-pronged...and only one of those prongs has to do with physical technique, which is what most people assume is the limiting factor when it comes to speed. The other two prongs don't really have anything to do with speed at all! But all three are necessary in order to play faster...well, to play well at any speed...by yourself and with others.
Please bring your own personal issues related to speed and session playing so we can discuss on the spot.
Who's this for: All instruments. Since I'm a melody player, it will be more melody-focused, but the topics apply to both melody and backer instrumentalists.
Level: All. This subject can be as shallow or deep as you want it to be, and is often a life-long endeavor.
